Uber and Wayve announced an initial London launch in which some UberX, Uber Electric and Uber Comfort riders can be matched with a Wayve-equipped vehicle.
Important distinction
The launch is supervised. Uber says a trained TfL-licensed private hire driver remains on board during this phase. It should not be described as general driverless Uber operation in London.
What drivers should take from it
This is a market development worth watching rather than an immediate change to the working requirements of ordinary private-hire drivers. Future expansion, regulation, service areas and operating models could change, so the source and TfL requirements matter more than headlines.
